I often swing back and forth on how I can relate my spirituality with the physical, factual, and tangible world that I inhabit. It’s true that many of us believe that “Spirit,” whether it be the Human Spirit, the earth Gaia Spirit, or what some call the Holy Spirit, is the life force underneath our visible reality. Yet there is little-known “evidence” of it – something that people can cling to, that can appease the linear right brain. There is no “thing” we can easily count on, despite its sustaining benefits and truths.
Despite popular belief among my peers, I consider myself to be a realist, grounded in what is practical in most situations. Part of my practicality, however, is believing in and being connected to “Spirit.” I’ve found that even if you’re an atheist who doesn’t believe in “God,” you cannot deny the cause and effect of energy and the power of our individual vibrations.
This all comes to mind now because I am currently participating in a 40 day “Abundance Challenge.” The word abundance, according to some of my friends, has a woo woo stigma to it – some magical or mystical element proven not by practical evidence, but rather by the experience of the observer who simply has faith in it. Woo woo things are the kind that often drive those with analytical minds bananas. But in doing this Abundance Challenge, coupled with my meditation practice and intentional living, I’ve found some undeniable results. Results that can actually be explained in practical terms.
But first: why is this important to address in our artists’ community? Well, if you think about how we make our living, much of our success relies on faith. We are rarely assured that our creations will bring us abundance and prosperity; but somehow, the energy and intention we put into the work makes it so. Have you ever found yourself feeling like you’ve done everything you can tangibly do to put efforts towards your success, and yet, you’re still getting stuck or stagnant? At this point there really is only one place you can go. Within yourself.
Our minds are super fucking powerful. They have the potential to either inhibit our growth or promote our expansion to success. If you put horse blinders on, you will only see the track in front of you, never acknowledging the wide open space around you. There are millions of possibilities for us, for the ways in which we can grow. But our limited minds only calculate and comprehend a fraction of them. When we are only focused on finding the “right” answer, we quickly run out of options and get discouraged, all the while disconnecting from the valuable spirit that drives us.
Now, what I’ve discovered over the years (and am rediscovering all the time, because I’m a stubborn-ass humanoid) is that with the law of abundance/attraction, it is not your sole responsibility to figure out every possibility as they relate to your calling. Rather, it is your responsibility to get clear on what you love, what fulfills you, and what you desire. Go within. Go within by quieting yourself, by shutting off distractions, and witness the energy that you are made of. Going within is like plugging into a direct power source. Your flesh is humming with a life force that is in FACT connected to a larger web of energy – one that literally makes up everything around us. We are part and parcel of this energy, and we have free reign to use it as we please. Your vibrations will reverberate through this web. The web will react to you, whether your thoughts or actions. When we give this web consciousness, it is God, or whatever you subscribe to as a higher power.
Imagine this: you are a being who runs on auto-pilot, mentally or verbally reacting to whatever you are experiencing in the moment. For example, you tell yourself, “I’m broke,” or “I’m not good enough to be successful.” Imagine these vibrations being sent out into the web of God. God won’t punish you for saying these things about yourself, but at the same time, God has no choice but to agree with you.
Now imagine you have gone within. You are quiet, without distractions, connected to spirit. You are consciously inside the web, tapping into the energetic flow of which you are an integral part, and proclaim aloud an intention:
“The Divine Consciousness that I am is forever expressing its true nature of Abundance. This is its responsibility, not mine. My only responsibility is to be aware of this Truth. Therefore, I am totally confident in letting go and letting God appear as the abundant all sufficiency in my life and affairs.”
Wait, whaaaaaaaa? Yes. Imagine that. Imagine it’s not all up to you… but rather, a collaboration of your thoughts and vibrations connecting to a vast net of unlimited possibilities. Imagine that you are not in control of everything that happens in your life, but you are in control of the intention that sets it forth. That intention is within your consciousness, and it is vital to the results you will receive.
So is this concept woo woo? Perhaps. But that doesn’t make it any less effective. Every time I “tune in” and put this into practice, I let go of the way I think it should look and become open to a way I never considered… every time, I realize it’s not only up to me, but the responsibility also lies within the energy of Divine Consciousness within and around me… every time, I find a bit of peace and lightness in handing over the wheel. All of this undoubtedly leads to either an unexpected opportunity, or my life will shift in a way that creates an opening I wasn’t expecting. This all happens because I release the expectation of just a few ideas in order to receive all ideas.
Ten years ago, the response I would give this concept would have been, “Well that’s easier said than done.” And yes, embodying this concept is never “easy.” Especially since most common thought says it’s all up to YOU, or it’s all up to GOD, or it’s all up to FATE.
So how do you tune in and begin?
Well first of all, it’s a way of life and a practice. You get to practice tuning in every day. Tuning in is, in fact, getting into a space connected to the Divine Consciousness and proclaiming the truth. It’s the difference between yelling at a symbol and having it minutely vibrate from your voice and physically behind it and creating a vibration by tapping (or gonging) it. First, be mindful of giving yourself some space to be quiet with no distractions. Then, I definitely encourage you to try this 40 Day Abundance Challenge. You can find it at this link:
Familiarize yourself with the concept, find a journal you love, choose a starting date, and begin. The challenge will give you an intention to work on everyday. If you have questions when you get stuck, journal about them and look to your daily affirmation for the answer. I shit you not, it never ceases to blow my mind. And in day 22, I’ve already experienced some significant shifting.
If you’re still skeptical and in analysis-mode about this abundance thing, that’s cool. But I’ll just leave you with this… What do you have to lose? Try it as an experiment. And don’t just half-ass it waiting, for it to fail; surrender and let go. If you’re a control freak, awesome! Just show up every day and do your best. And remember, at the end of the day:
